Won Jung Gak

9655 - 62 Ave.
Edmonton, AB
*Have no idea if it even has a phone number!

This place is totally off the beaten path! It's in the industrial area close to Argyle in Edmonton. You would never think to have a restaurant built into an autobody mechanic shop. It was converted to a restaurant by a Korean family about two years ago. I think they just put up a sign recently. It is ghetto! If you want good Chinese style Korean food, this is the place to go. It's definitely mama papa.

The decor...absolutely repulsive with fake flowers, tacky Chinese decorations, and art placed in weird places and paintings and such that has no theme what so ever. But it's definitely all about the food. I ordered the #2 (jam bong - spicy seafood noodle soup) and my company ordered their own bowl of noodles or rice. We ordered #38 (chicken with red pepper and garlic sauce) to share, that was delicious. It's a recommendation from my Korean friends, usually people would order the sweet n' sour chicken, but this was a better option. The seats were not comfortable at all; service was terrible; 3 of us got our dishes before the last person did and they didn't bother to figure out something was wrong or ask or anything. Tea took forever as well as our water. The Korean side dishes that you usually get at a Korean restaurant was fine, minimal, but that's what they usually serve. I've been here a few times.

But...food was great! The jam bong can honestly be a "last meal" for me. The quantities I wish was a bit bigger for the price I pay. Not sure if there's MSG in it, haven't really figured that one out yet. I normally react to MSG, but haven't once been affected by this restaurant. The chicken was also pricey for the amount we had, but the sauce was light, flavourful and refreshing to offset the spiciness of my noodles. I definitely recommend this Korean restaurant over most, if not all, if you're looking for noodles.
